Urban Horizons Early Childhood Discovery Center

Urban Horizons Early Childhood Development Center
Bronx, New York

Urban Horizons is the redevelopment of the formerly abandoned Morrisania Hospital in Bronx, New York into a thriving mixed-use community anchor. The renovation included the integration of 132 apartments for low income families, a child care center for approximately 110 children, a business incubator space for catering and food preparation and a health care facility. The project helped revitalize the community, providing, housing, services and job and training opportunities all under one roof. Large windows throughout the interior corridor borrow natural light from the perimeter classrooms, and playful, geometric patterns and color are reflected in the windows, floor tiles and reception desk.
