Southfield Children’s Center

Southfield Children’s Center is a 6,000 square foot new facility designed to provide child care services for 60 kindergarteners, preschoolers and infant/toddlers, integrating special needs children. The classrooms are designed as open plan spaces with smaller break out areas for reading, music or quiet activities. The building is sited adjacent to an existing low rise apartment building, and the linear plan includes front porches facing enclosed play areas, and numerous windows with child-height sills, that maximize the classroom views to the rear wooded landscape. Design features include sloped ceilings with clerestory windows, flexible gross motor and meeting spaces and a full commercial kitchen.
