Mt. Kisco, New York
The Mt. Kisco Day Care Center is a new 30,000 square foot intergenerational day care center bringing together 160 children and 50 seniors. The building is designed around a central courtyard, which serves as an outdoor gathering space. All details reflect the user: child and senior alike. Window sills are low enough for children to observe the changing seasons, and interior windows visually connect the spaces. Sloped ceilings, generous lighting, natural wood finishes and the elimination of corridors create a sense of home. The courtyard provides natural light to the interior spaces and opens directly to the lobby, senior dining room, infant wing and gross motor room, allowing natural interaction among the children and seniors.
